Lira is the nation’s only professional performing arts company specializing in Polish music, song and dance.

The Lira Ensemble consists of a symphony orchestra, singers and dancers.
Nearly all Lira musicians hold master’s degrees in their instrument or invoice,
so performances are of the highest artistic level.

Lira is based in Chicago as artist-in-residence at Loyola University Chicago,
performs widely around the Midwest and occasionally in other parts of the country
and has made six concert tours of Poland.  Lira sells six CD recordings around the nation

The mission of the Lira Ensemble is to bring the best of Polish culture into American life.

Lira serves its own Polish-American community
and represents Polish Americans to the larger American society

Lira is the “go to” performing arts company for all things Polish!

The Lira Ensemble makes the best of Polish culture available to Americans through cooperation with foremost American institutions.  Some examples:

• when the Sarasota Opera in Florida decided to present Stanislaw Moniuszko‘s opera “Halka,” it hired Lira to provide choreography and dancers - and won rave reviews…
• when WFMT, Chicago’s classical music station, wanted to produce a series of programs about the history of Polish music for the nationally syndicated “Exploring Music” program with Bill McGlaughlin, it consulted with Lira on what music to present and aired Lira recordings as part of the series…
• when the US Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC presented its first-ever week of Polish-American programming, it opened that week with a concert by Lira…
• when the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smart Gallery of the University of Chicago, and the Loyola University Chicago Museum of Art needed appropriate concerts to accompany Polish exhibits, they turned to Lira, with great success…
• when the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor chose the subject of Polish folk music for one of its prestigious Copernican Lectures, it invited Lira to give a lecture/concert…
• when Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago requires appropriate Polish sacred music for a particular occasion, it calls the Lira office…

…and this is just a partial list. 

Lira appears in prestigious concert halls and theaters and always advertises in major newspapers, making all aware of its performances, not only Poles and Polish Americans.

Some of these projects pay for themselves, but many do not. Yet we believe all of this work is essential and should be done.

Therefore, we respectfully ask for your donation so that the Lira Ensemble may continue what we hope you agree is a very important function, one that truly helps all  Americans understand and appreciate the beauty and value of our thousand-year-old Polish heritage.
